On October 23, 2013, San Francisco, Apple held a new product conference in which launched the new iPad Air, iPad mini Retina, 13 and 15 inch MacBook Pro Retina and Mac Pro, a total of 5 new products. In addition, the company also released a couple of free software including OS X system, iLife and iWork.
This has been the second conference for Apple in the recent two months and the new generation iPhone 5s /5c just came out on September’s conference not long ago. The short 42-day interval between the two conferences is very rare on the history of Apple, and we can see from it that Apple is renewing its products in a fast speed that it never had and its free software move was unprecedented, too. Obviously it had greatly improved the update frequency of the products.
Compared with earlier versions, the new iPad Air has a big change in shape which is now more close to iPad mini; in thickness it falls to 7.4 millimeters from 9.4 before and meanwhile 180g lighter, featuring a narrower frame.
Technically, the 9.7 inch iPad 5 had been expected more than the new iPad mini for there has been a rumor after iPhone 5s’s release, saying that iPad 5 had also been equipped with the fingerprint scanning technology and 64 chips. If that’s true, it means the line between tablets and laptops would be further blurred. But as it turned out, in hardware, iPad Air still adopted a 9.7 inch retina screen and the 64 bite A7 processor, instead of the fingerprint identification function as rumors said. IPad Air also boasts of a 5 Million Pixels in the main lens while 1.2 million pixels in the front camera and it’s capable of supporting a 720p image quality conversation through Facetime. Besides, double microphone design is added to the new iPad Air. It supports faster WI-Fi speed and a continuous 10h use.
Allegedly iPad Air would offer silver and space grey version, which is a little disappoint for some people since the popular gold version is not in the list of choices. It’s said that the product will be officially on sale on 1st November.
As to the new iPad mini Retina, differing from the once-criticized 1024 x768 resolution screen, the new iPad mini owned 2048 x 1536 resolution the same as full-size iPad; Meanwhile, PPI also achieved up to 326, a same level with iPhone 5s. It can be seen as the highest standard equipment for a 7.9 inch screen tablet.
What’s worth noticing is that this time the renewed iPad Air is exactly the same with iPad mini except for a different screen size. Many customers once felt that it is hard to choose between iPad Retina and iPad mini in the past. While today, now that Apple has unified the configuration of iPad products, the size would be the only factor need to be considered when choosing a product and it’s pretty much liberation to customers.
